Hello all, good news, it appears that you can get the 33.6 Dynalink upgrade
to run on IBM Thinkpad's Running either WIN95 or WIN3.1x. This has been
tested on a TP755CE with WIN95 and a TP760CD with WIN3.11. Installation
instructions follow.
----------------
Update... I've been told that the installation program may work if you
manually expand the .inf file and replace the .inf file in the
c:\windows\inf directory. I have not tested this to see if it works or not
and i am not sure if there is anything else you need to do to get the
installation program to run. Might be worth a try cause it would save doing
all the stuff below.
Also, I have found that from time to time the Mwave modem crashes when I
try to disconnect from my dialup in win95. Not sure what the cause is,
possibly a bug in the beta drivers, you lose sound and everything and have
to reboot to get it back.
--------------
General:
You must be running the newest Mwave Drivers for Thinkpads, v2.22.
Get the Dynalink 33.6k upgrade from the following address:
http://www.netcnct.net/business/6bit/links/
Create a temporary directory and put the 33k6up.exe file into it.
Run the 33k6up.exe file and it will expand itself into that directory.
Now the setup program with the upgrade won't run on a TP so you have to
expand files manually, the good news is that you don'n need all of them.
Delete all of the files EXCEPT:
MWMLOADW.DL_
MWMMSGW.DL_
MWMPARSW.DL_
ASYNC.DS_
MNP.DS_
MODEM.DS_
V34.DS_
V42.DS_
MWMWIN.EX_
EXPAND.EXE
Now, expand all of the filename.??_ files using the expand program, cut and
paste the following into a batch file to make your life easier:
-----start batch here----
EXPAND MWMLOADW.DL_ MWMLOADW.DLL
EXPAND MWMMSG.DL_ MWMMSG.DLL
EXPAND MWMPARSW.DL_ MWMPARSW.DLL
EXPAND ASYNC.DS_ ASYNC.DSP
EXPAND MNP.DS_ MNP.DSP
EXPAND MODEM.DS_ MODEM.DSP
EXPAND V34.DS_ V34.DSP
EXPAND V42.DS_ V42.DSP
EXPAND MWWIN.EX_ MWWIN.EXE
----end batch here----
Delete all of the files ending in *.??_ as well as the expand.exe file.
WIN95 instructions:
First off, it might be a good idea to backup all of the following files:
Everything in your C:\MWW and C:\MWW\MODEM directories (zip them all into
one file is easiest)
The following files in your C:\WINDOWS directory: MWAUDIO.INI, MWAVE.INI,
MWCONTD.INI, MWMWIN.INI
The MWMDM430.INF file in the hidden C:\WINDOWS\INF directory.
Copy all of the files in your temporary directory into the C:\MWW\MODEM
directory and replace all of your old files with these newer ones.
Uninstall the mwave modem from the Device Manager by clicking on it and
clicking REMOVE.
Using a text editor change the following:
In the MWMDOS.INI file in the C:\MWW directory:
Under [VERSIONS], OEM=Thinkpad to OEM=Thinkpad 33.6
Under [FEATURES], add the line V334EM=1 <---special thanks to Joshua
Hosseinof for this
Under [STARTUP], SPEED=28800 to SPEED=33600
In the MWCONFIG.INI file in the C:\MWW directory:
Under [NativeDOS], Default=28.8kModem to Default=33.6kModem
In the MWAVE.INI and the TESTWAVE.INI files in the C:\MWW directory:
Under [Mwave,Board] you can increase the ips= value up to somewhere around
25000000
In the MWMWIN.INI file in the C:\WINDOWS directory:
Under [VERSIONS], OEM=Thinkpad to OEM=Thinkpad 33.6
Under [FEATURES], add the line V334EM=1
Under [STARTUP], SPEED=28800 to SPEED=33600
In the MWMDM430.INF file in the C:\WINDOWS\INF (hidden) directory:
Under [STRINGS], MwaveModem = "Thinkpad 28.8 Data Fax VOD Modem" to
MwaveModem = "Thinkpad 33.6 Data Fax VOD Modem"
And that's it. Do a cold reboot of the system and WIN95 should detect your
new Thinkpad 33.6 Data Fax VOD Modem! The Mwave Modem program should also
see the modem as 33600 and the v34 setting should also have changed to 33.6.
WIN3.11 instructions:
Upgrade to WIN95 and follow the above instructions (just kidding, here we go):
First off, it might be a good idea to backup all of the following files:

the modem as 33600 and the v34 setting should also have changed to 33.6.
As far as I can tell, this all works. Since the drivers are only a beta
release there may be some glitches that pop up. Hopefully things will work
well.
Enjoy,
Lee
