I'm running Red Alert (in the few spare moments I have, anyway) on my
ThinkPad 760C, and I found that I could avoid the problem you observe
by running the supplied "Red Alert Win95 Edition Setup" program, and
making sure the following settings are checked:

640x480 pixels	(not sure if this one is required)

	Allow hardware filled blits

and leaving the other fields unchecked/blank. I arrived at this via
experimentation, and my results are somewhat at odds with the supplied
documentation, but it seems to work.

BTW, I'm using the most recent ThinkPad video drivers for the 760C,
and have only played on an external monitor. Hope this helps.
