Overview
 
Upcoming additions to the new ThinkPad 760 series will feature the
high-performance 166MHz(1) Pentium (R) processor with MMX (TM)
technology, brilliant 12.1-inch (measured diagonally) TFT displays,
hard disk drive (HDD) capacities up to 3.0GB(2), and a standard or
optional 8X CD-ROM.
 
With these enhancements to the internationally acclaimed ThinkPad 760
series, IBM continues its leadership in processor power and overall
system performance.  Now with the power to run today's and tomorrow's
next generation of advanced multimedia and communications
applications, the ThinkPad 760 continues to deliver the ultimate
blend of mobile power, performance, connectivity, and configuration
flexibility.

New Options

   the total system memory to 104MB to meet the demands of the most
   sophisticated applications, operating systems, and operating
   environments.
 
Availability
 
o  The ThinkPad 760X series using the Pentium processor with MMX will
   be available in second quarter 1997.
o  8X CD-ROM and 3.0GB HDD options will be available by the end of
   second quarter 1997.
o  ThinkPad Proven memory upgrade options are available now.

      other factors also affect application performance.
(2)   GB = 1000 million bytes and MB = one million bytes when
      referring to hard disk.
(3)   Available for those models of the ThinkPad 760 series that
      accept a CD-ROM drive.
(4)   Available for all 760E/ED, 760EL, and 760X series models.

DESCRIPTION
 
Processor:  The ThinkPad 760X series comes with a 166MHz Pentium
processor with MMX.
 
LCD Display:  The ThinkPad 760X series comes with up to a 12.1-inch
(measured diagonally) TFT LCD with 1024 x 768 resolution.  The TFT
display provides superior viewing capability and helps lessen the
glare indoors.  The 12.1-inch 1024 x 768 resolution screen provides
over 60% more information when compared to 12.1-inch displays with
800 x 600 resolution.
 
Storage:  Customer removable/installable HDDs of up to 3.0GB are
available.  The customer-removable HDD is accessible by lifting up
the keyboard.  Multiple user's with their own hard drive may share
one system.  A 1.44MB floppy diskette drive (FDD) comes standard.
 
Memory:  System memory can be expanded up to 104MB with ThinkPad
Proven vendor optional memory expansion.  This provides extensive
memory expansion for the most sophisticated and advanced operating
systems and applications.
 
Media Processor:  Provides high-speed modem communications,
telephony, and audio support (available on some models).
 
ThinkPad Ultrabay:  The ThinkPad Ultrabay is an intelligent bay for
FDD, second HDD, second battery, CD-ROM, or wireless communication
devices.
 
The combination of the new 8X CD-ROM, extensive memory
upgradeability, ThinkPad Ultrabay flexibility, and a wide variety of
desktop docking solutions, makes the ThinkPad the leader in
versatility and expandability.
 
PCMCIA:  The Type III slot can accommodate either two Type I, two
Type II, or one Type III PCMCIA cards.
 
Infrared (IR):  The system has IR transceivers in front and back for
convenient wireless file and data transfer and printing.
 
Docking Support:  As with all 760 ThinkPad notebooks, the new 760X
series is compatible with the SelectaDock II, modular and upgradeable
desktop solutions, as well as the original Dock I, Dock II, and port
replicator options.
