OK.  BIOS may be a bit of an oversimplification.  What I mean is that 
PS/2 configures the non-volatile power management information.  You 
don't have a PS2 equivalent on Linux, so you have to rely on the DOS 
version.  However, the settings are persistent even when you change OS.
