Toshiba 1.3GB hard disk in thinkpad 560
Hi. I have a thinkpad 560 P100 with an 800MB IBM hard disk. I have
successfully installed a Toshiba MK1301MAV 1.3GB 12.5mm hard disk in my
machine. Even though the 560 has no accessible bios hard disk settings
the machine correctly identified and utilized the drive. "Plug it in and
it works". The machine is still under warrantee but IBM gives you
explicit instructions on how to disassemble a 560 on their web site:
http://www3.pc.ibm.com:80/cgi-bin/bookmgr/BOOKS/s82g1503/CCONTENTS
I guess if they didn't want you to take it apart they wouldn't tell
you how to do it. Also you can order every single piece of the machine as
a replacement part directly from IBM:
http://direct.boulder.ibm.com/us/parts/thinkpad/tpad560.htm
The parts are amazingly cheap except for the LCD/HD/system board. You can
buy a new pcmcia drive cage, cables, and connectors for $21 if you bend
the pins on yours.
Now the real question is whether the 560 bios can support a 2.1GB 12.5 mm
drive....
