PPP setup

Hi, there, I was trying to setup my PPP connection in Linux on my thinkpad
755 CD.
I have a 28.8 Mwave modem. The porblem is that Linux does not recongize my
modem when it does initialization. Does anyone know about the
"Initialization String" for Mwave modem. Also my X-windows is still running
under VGA. Is there anyone who is runing X-windows under Super VGA. My
video card is Western digits(always) and LCD frequency(vertical and
horizentail) is unknown(I think that is why I am using standard VGA).
