ThinkPAd 700C battery

I'm a new owner of a used Thinkpad 700C.

Is there supposed to be a way of telling the computer that it has a freshly
charged battery?

I know on an AST we had at the office, we ordered a new battery for it
because it wouldn't stay on, only to find out that the new battery did the
same thing.  After plowing thru the manual on this somebody found out that
you had to tell the computer thaqt the battery was charged.?.?

Is the 700C the same way?  The battery shows 13.25v accross most of the
contacts.  - to +

Just thoght I'd ask the group before spending another $125 on another battery.
