I have done what you described and it works fine.  Before installing or
inserting the Megahertz card get their latest drivers from their www site.
The only problem you may incur is with the cabling.  On twisted pair, you
can connect two machines together without a hub but the wiring is different.
You need the same config used to connect hubs together.  The normal cable
that goes from the computer to the hub is straight through.  To connect two
computers directly, I think the pairs 1 and 3 and 2 and 6 need to be
flipped.  You should confirm this.

As for problems with ThinkPads, sometimes they do not like to enter suspend
or hibernate with the card in.  If you have this problem, stop the card
though the pcmcia icon and then go into suspend.  I don't have this problem
any more and assume it may be from loading the latest Megahertz drives.
