These are related, for me: I never got the infrared to work while using TranXit and Windows 3.11, and have had no problem getting it up and running with Windows95 after getting the IRDA driver upgrade from their site (Microsoft's, that is). My 701 is communicating just fine with my new Kiwi 680 (yes, I'll be leaving the list soon, since I'll soon no longer be a 701 or other Thinkpad owner :-( ) Go for the upgrade, though remember what folks have said about TPs not hibernating with OSR2!
