Howdy,
After a 1.5 year hiatus, I am back on the list. For the last several days,
I see there are still some familiar names around. I live and work overseas
and haven't had a good net connection until now. I'm glad to be back.
I have a TP755CS with 8Meg RAM, two HDs (170Meg- Win3.1/ 340Meg- Linux
running X), DX4-75. I would like to try to locally purchase a standard
2.5inch IDE harddrive, make a makeshift cover, and install it myself. I
have some old messages from the list on this (Kim, Chou, Whiteside et al/
that suggest this can be done), but the one piece of info I am missing is
the specs on the connector/cable to make the connection between the IDE
drive 44pins and the AMP D connector on the outside. Does anyone have recent
pertinent info/pitfalls to avoid etc. on this and where I can order such a
connector/cable in the states?
I know many of you have upgraded over the last several years; unfortunately,
I haven't been able to... thus I am still using this friendly, old but
faithful machine. I am a longtime Linux user, and want to upgrade my kernel,
but alas I am short on RAM and disk space. Thus, if there is anyone with
some old machines around that are gathering dust and are interested in
unloading an old part for a reasonable price :-), I am in the market for
some more RAM, new battery, and a new harddrive. Maybe there are places
that have sprung up in the last few years that sell this old stuff.
Pointers in the right direction would be appreciated. I did see the recent
pointer to www.indexcomputer.com for TP755 upgrades.
Thanks in advance and
Best regards,
Joe Derrick
