This is a pointing device error when the TrackPoint II is enabled.
IBM's hardware maintenace manual says to first try reseating the
TP-II cable at the interposer card.  That is the left-most cable
as you view the computer from the front as if you were typing, it's
under the cover just above the keyboard.

If that doesn't work they suggest replacing the keyboard.
