RE: Passwords Gone

Patrick:

There is a bug in Win95 that causes the passwords to get blown away.
I believe it was introduced with the service pack. There is a fix on
MSFT's Web site for the 'password' bug.

To fix it, until it happens again or you get the patch, go to your
c:\windows directory and sort the folder by type. looking for *.PWL

You will find one that is called <username>.PWL ( for example my file
is henry.pwl) This file contains all of your passwords. If you
delete it (I prefer rename but it is up to you) and then shut down
and restart this should fix the problem(all you have to do is log off
and log in as a different user). When the system comes back up enter
your password it will think you have never logged in to the machine
before and will ask you to confirm the password. This process
actually creates a new PWL file. Get the patch and this file should
not get corrupted again!!!

BTW any password that you have typed into your system in stored in
this file so you will have to enter them all again when prompted

Subject:	Passwords Gone

Who has a clue why my saved passwords, under Windows 95, would
suddenly
disappear? These were my ISP passwords that I now must type in each
time I
wish to connect to the internet. Any ideas? Thanks.
