As long as IBM will support it, I would easyserve the machine and get the keyboard replaced. That part is supposed to be part of the keyboard itself. I could be wrong, but that's what IBM said when they I asked them about the loose mouse buttons on my ThinkPad - mouse buttons, or anything besides the TrackPoint III cap itself are part of the whole keyboard, and that we then need replacment.
