The Dock II does SCSI or at least one IDE device. It may do 2, but
I don't remember the cable configuraton. For me, SCSI is more
versatile and so almost all of my devices are SCSI (unless
someone gives me a IDE device).
BTW: keep checking this list and the bboard misc.for-sale.laptops(?).
You should be able to pick up a Dock for much less.

A 1" high CD is hard to find unless you buy an IBM labeled CD
ROM drive. Teac used to (or may still) sell CD drives that fit
into 1" bays. Otherwise, you can add in a normal 1/2 height device.
My configuration consists of a 1 GB SCSI hard drive in the 1" bay,
a JVC 4x2 CD-Writer (4x read, 2x write) in the 1/2 height bay.
I've also got a ISA-10BaseT network card in one of the ISA slots.
Often, there are additional SCSI devices daisychained to the
external SCSI-2 slot.
Summary: it might not make sense unless you REALLY need a CD.
Even then, a better solution might be an add-on, external CD.
On the other hand, if you get one cheap, then do it.

I am in the market for a second laptop for my family. We have a 701C now
and I am looking at the 760's and the Dock II. I intend to use the system
in both mobile (ie away from my primary residence (apt)) and "on the road".
For my application, the 760 is a desktop replacement where I could
(hopefully) put a graphics card in the PCI slot and an external monitor for
true desktop replacement. The extra bays are not so important to me - not
as long as there is SCSI available. (Yes, $700 is an expensive case...).
And it would be *real* nice to have the option to stick either the 701 or
thge 760 into the support system.
Questions:
1. What flavor of CD Rom drive does it support ? IDE or SCSI
2. Can one indeed run an external video card in this configuration ?
Any sources for less than full price Dock II's gleefully accepted.
