Re: Non-disruptive swap on 701cs

An update to the non-disruptive swap problem. I got the computer back
late on saturday and I'm just now putting it through it's paces. I have
to call the technician on monday to see exactly what was done but it
seems to be working correctly now. The message on my answering machine
from the tech indicated that he had disabled APM, and the battery icon
in the tray and in control panel is gone, however in device manager it
indicates that power management is still enabled, force APM 1.0 was
checked and I unchecked it and it still seems to work. I unchecked the
force APM 1.0 becuase that forces the computer to use the old win3.1 APM
standards which, according to a paper from IBM, is not neccessary
because the 701 has been tested and proven fully compatible with APM 1.1
and this does now appear to work so I'm not sure what the tech disabled
besides the little battery meter icon. If it is infact fixed then I'll
be ecstatic as it took five trips to easyserv and finally a tech at
customer relations to figure out the problem, not to mention several
systemboard and battery replacements. Well it's time toput the machine
through its paces to see if it acts up again. But I'm still interested
in hearing if anyone else has this problem and their configuration.

Every other ThinkPad IBM makes uses a 3 volt or higher standard battery but the 701 comes with a 1.2 volt NiMh standby battery(that's what mine comes with). Unless the 701's got a voltage step-up circuit, I don't know if it's enough voltage to keep the memory alive when the main battery is removed. This may be the cause. But I can't be sure without a schematic or taking my Thin
