I have often wished that my crisp Thinkpad TFT display could be used as the VGA display for a second (desktop) system. A Fn hotkey would switch between the laptop system and the desktop system. Switch the keyboard and Trackpoint too and I'd be in heaven! I spend hours in my livingroom installing, upgrading and configuring computers, and the amount of wait time (while decreasing these days) is considerable. I'd like to read news my Thinkpad while I wait. And switch back and forth real quick. Or am I just really lazy? Also useful for in the field troubleshooting (i.e. dead monitor/ keyboard/mouse).
I don't know if this is technically possible. Does anyone else know? I think there might be some problems with the fixed frequency of laptop panel displays. Would this be an expensive feature, I wouldn't think so? I guess you would need to find room for one more (VGA in) port. I think my feature request might be a little esoteric but no more so than the 755 with the slide out overhead projector thingy.
I throw out my idea in the hopes that some IBM engineer can relate.
