Re: re Compatibility of third party hard disks and TP701

It's only one data point, and not disastrous to boot (sorry) but I've
been running with a 1.3 GB Toshiba drive for 1+ yr. in a TP701cs with
out any apparent difficulties. Actually, there is one, seemingly,
minor discrepancy, that being the setup page with the hard disk
capacity has the hard drive as something like 295 MB - my guess is
that the field can only handle three characters. There are other s/w
utilities that can't exactly agree on the size of the drive, a point I
find hard to understand, but there all in the 1.28 to 1.3 range as I
     recall.

Recently my ThinkPad 701 cs stopped accessing the hard drive - it just did
not recognize the hard drive even if booted from a floppy. I sent it to
EasyServ who suggested that the third party hard disk, a 1.08 gb from
Microsense, had "blown" the system board - which they repaired. The 701 was
only meant to handle up to a 720 mb disk from IBM!

Is this reasonable? Have others had similar disastrous compatibility
problems?
