Not sure exactly what you're asking here, but right now my TP755CD runs
Linux, and I have no problem playing audio CD's or .WAV files.
The trick is to boot up DOS first, and use the MWGAMES command to load the
SoundBlaster emulation into the MWAVE. (Just type MWGAMES ON CD; you may
need to type MWGAMES OFF and/or MWMODEM OFF first.) Then use loadlin to
boot Linux. Your Linux kernel should be configured for SB support,
of course.
As I said, this trick will let you play audio CD's and .WAV files under
Linux. But you can't play MIDI files, for unknown reasons. Also, the
SoundBlaster emulation isn't very good; the MWAVE emulates an 8-bit
SoundBlaster. You can do `MWMODEM PRO' to make it emulate a SoundBlaster Pro
instead, but at the price of giving up the ability to play CD's.
Almost forgot. If you close the ThinkPad cover, the SB emulation goes away
and you have to start all over again.
As you may have gathered, I'm not impressed by IBM's MWAVE. Is IBM using it
in more recent ThinkPads?
