video questions redux

Thanks those who responded to a video-questions message I posted a couple
weeks ago.

I'd asked about the resolution and color-palette options for the 701C. I
mentioned I'd inherited the previous owner's settings of 640x480 and 256
colors, and asked if either could be bumped up.

I neglected to mention I'm running Win95.

The consensus seemed to be I couldn't do anything about 640x480, but that I
could bump the colors to as high as 16-bit true color.

So I upped the colors to 16-bit and restarted as prompted.

The truth, though, is that the 701C (active matrix) display doesn't look a
whole lot different to me than when it was at 256k.

When I called IBM Tech Support, I was told the hardware limitations on the
701C are 640x480 and 256 colors, and that's the best I'd get no matter what
the display settings said.

Some of you have suggested I'd a different driver to support the higher
colors, but IBM dumped on that notion.

(Incidentally, I'm not concerned with what the TP might support on an
external monitor).

Any comments?

Thanks.
