Re: Thinkpad 380D or 365XD
>>>>>
1. I heard the 380D's DSTN is almost typical TFT standard. Any owner
willing to testify?
<<<<<
A friend of mine owns a 365 with DSTN screen and although it is not bad I
find that TFT screens are still superior. (I saw a 380 with a DSTN screen
and the display looked the same as on a 365.) One can often read the
argument that "a DSTN screen is fine if you mainly do word processing" but
I disagree to some extent, at least as far as long typing sessions are
concerned. I find myself fiddling with the contrast control too often when
using my friend's computer and scrolling through a document is impossible.
On the other hand, if you don't spend long hours looking at the display and
if money is an important issue for you, a DSTN screen might be okay. My
friend certainly doesn't regret his purchase.

3. In what ways are the 380D better than 365XD?
<<<<<
Faster processor, bigger hard drive, internal FDD/CD-ROM combination (which
I find very convenient although it makes the 380 half an inch thicker than
the 365).
>>>>>
I haven't seen the 380 models yet but have played with a 760 and was very
disappointed with the keyboard.
<<<<<
I own a 380D and its excellent keyboard was one of the reasons why I bought
this particular model. The keyboard on the 760 seems to be very flimsy.
Even the 365 has a better keyboard than the 760.
Which computer should you buy? I recommend that you go to a store and find
out which notebook you feel most comfortable with. Take your time, try
typing something and compare the screen quality using different
applications. You will probably use your computer for a few years and
therefore you should make sure that you won't regret your purchase at a
later point, even if you end up spending more money than you had planned
initially.
Good luck!
