Help!

I've inadvertantly locked myself out of my laptop at bios level.
I was attempting to disable the password for the hardrive and just leave the bios one.
The bios accepted my new password for the hd and the padlock icon unlocked.
The machine then booted ok without asking for a password. The problem came
the next time I attempted to enter the bios. It wouldnt accept the password and then
locked up entirely. Now everytime I switch on It asks for a password and none of mine
work.
How do I get around this?. Is there an hardcoded supervisor password I can use to get in?.
Alternatively will removing the small button cell battery inside ditch the password. The only
other alternative I can think of is to take the machine to an IBM service agent but the local
agent is ridiculously expensive.
