Here's a tip I found for everyone that I use on another system, since I took off DOS to make my 701 
completely OS/2: get a bootable DOS disk (I use PC-DOS 6.3, which was already on that hard drive which 
came out of a 755CE), and boot to DOS, then CD \OS2, type "boot /dos", it will ask you a confirmation "Y/N", 
choose "y", and take out the floppy, and the hard drive will boot back to DOS.

Also, you might want to press ALT-F1 for a list of recovery options, or ALT-F2 to see all the drivers load up.  
This is helpful in determining which driver(s) cause the system to hang.  And it is recommended that you run 
CHKDSK /F, possibly in OS/2 if you still have your OS/2 boot disks.  BTW, what version do you have?
