mutant 560 hibernation *solved*

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Howdy-

Well, at least it looks that way to me. Here's how I did it:

The key was the pointer (thanks!) to the REXX script for use under
OS/2. That gave me the idea to stop depending on ThinkPad Features for
NT or the PS2 command and create the hibernation file (PM_HIBER.BIN)
myself.

It took me about 5 minutes to whip up something in Perl5 to write a
blank file of the correct size/name/attributes to my FAT16
partition. Script available upon request.

Booted to DOS, and lo and behold, the PS2 program had changed its
tune. "Hibernation file already exists" it merrily reported. PS2 was
happy to activate RediSuspend and even execute the "PS2 HIBERNATE"
command. I haven't had a "battery low-gotta hibernate" condition occur
yet, but I am pretty confident it will work.

ThinkPad Features for NT doesn't show hibernation as active in its
main screen, but it does show the proper parameters I set manually via
PS2, so I think that's a red herring. Both NT and Linux appeared to
RediSuspend and RediResume just fine.

If my 560 blows up as a result of this hackery, I'll be sure to let
people know. Thanks again for the clues I received from folks on this
list.

   Peace,
      dNb
