Rubber Mallet, was RE: Sources for 2.1 gig

just curious, but, ummm, would you care to elaborate on that?
I believe the times when a hammer/mallet was standard equipment
with Seagate drives are over. (the heads used to stick to the
magnetic surface, preventing the drive from spinning up - but
that was in the 40MB-days... a whack with a hammer (or dropping
the whole computer a few inches) usually did the job...)
BTW, I managed to swap the drive without a Torx screwriver. I
used a small Philips screwdriver held at a slant. I've done it
3 or four times now, and it still works and I believe a Torx
would still fit - I'm not grinding the inside profile too much.

>to do it when you can DIY?
I believe the real bonus in getting the expensive caddy solution
is having a second caddy. I would really appreciate having another
one, especially since the laptop as of today is not my primary
computer any more, and I could swap OS's that way.

IBM's ~6GB 2.5" is a 19mm high drive, afaik...
