Saran is a insulating thin, but generally totally impermiable membrane.
People used to use to make electrostatic speakers, I use it to keep the
scum off pudding in the fridge.

My concern in using it is that ANY moisture that is inside will stay
inside. This means it could condense in the wrong place once the device
cooled down, or sat overnight.

I don't think it is a source of static, just a good insulator that doesn't
disspate the static charge.
