Intro and questions
Hello:
I've been on and off this list for a while, and recently re-subscribed
to find out if any brave soul out there has had success using Win98
on a thinkpad. In particular, a 760CD. (How I installed Win98 was
"indirect," and it boils down to a desperate attempt to fix problems
generated by installing, then removing IE 4.0 on my Win95 system.
After that, all turned to heck, and my system would hang every
few minutes. A full install of Win95 *over the top* of my current
failing system didn't help, so I popped in Win98 (Beta 2) and
let it install).
Unfortunately, power management, and all Mwave functions are
snafu, and I haven't been able to resolve them. I had Win98
retain my old OS so I could uninstall it, but that too failed,
and now I'm afraid I'm looking at a clean, and full, re-install
of Win95. Sigh. The woes of an early adopter. . . .
If anyone has ideas, I'd love to hear them. (I'm not a beta
tester for Win98, I just got the CD as part of a test subscription,
so I can't get much help from MS. I thought about subscribing now
as a beta-tester, but it's probably not worth the trouble, I just
want a working Win9x system!)

And, onto a second problem. I had planned to dig into the archives
to see if this issue had been covered, but the ftp links are
refusing to let me log in. The links I'm trying for our archives are:
URL: ftp://swiss-ftp.ai.mit.edu/archive/thinkpad/faq/
URL: ftp://swiss-ftp.ai.mit.edu/archive/thinkpad/archive
Both of these return a "Login Incorrect" error, whether I use
a browser or straight ftp. I got these links from my most-
recent "Welcome to the Thinkpad mailing list" message. Have
the links changed?
Regards, and Hello, again,
Dean Cashen
