Depends how technically-skilled you are.  And although I have
taken apart 2 different ThinkPads before, they can be really tricky
(like this 701), and also can void your warranty quicker.  In the case
of my 701, when EZServ didn't send back all the parts, they sent 
replacement parts a while later, which gave me the idea that *I* had 
to do the repairs.  Oh well, they didn't care anyways!  But back to the
main point - you might be able to do it, but you would need really small
screwdrivers, a large flat service, lots of light, lots of patience, and would
also need lots of patience when you realize that you've blown your warranty.
