Probably most university networks are build around unix boxes - I'm typing this
on a Sparc 5 myself.  However, I neither maintain nor buy software for this machine
personally.  We were talking about the TP560, what operating systems do a substantial
number of people run on it, and whether location of any of these people at universities is relevant
to the latter question.  As an academic I can get deals on software in Mac and Windows versions;
while this wouldn't *stop* me from putting Linux on my machine, it certainly wouldn't
encourage me either.
