On most modern modems, it directs the modem to reset all of its parameters
to those saved in the Factory Defaults Profile #1. Software that deals with
modems often does this sort of thing first, to ensure that it will have a
chance at working, even if you have configured your modem for some kind of
truly bizarre mode.
