Is your CD an 8x?  Many 8x CDrom drives are 'speeded up' 4x drives; 
these are susceptible to vibrations, even on desktop machines.  If
this is the case for you, then I wouldn't worry - the behavior is normal
(though I believe such drives have a higher failure rate than comparable
6x drives).
