This happened to me when I installed IE4.  A BIOS upgrade fixed it (my
machine is now at BIOS revision 10ET42WW, dated 10/20/97, part number
97H4574; there may be even newer ones).

I still have *occasional* flakiness - perhaps there's an even newer BIOS,
I haven't looked lately.
