There were many early word processors for DOS for example that did their
own font definitions and output. it is programs like this that cause
trouble (note that the original message mentioned the Hercules, and
there were indeed a number of programs which used fonts specifically
designed for the Hercules card). These are programs that as far as
the OS is concerned are running in graphics mode. The specificatoin
of fonts for a DOS window affects only fonts displayed in text mode.
