Hi guys,
I just joined the list, and I normally would lurk for a while, but I
really need to get cracking.
I recently got several Thinkpad 360C's. I thought they were faster
computers (486 DX4-100s) but as it turns out they are only 486SX-33s.
A company called Corporate Upgrades is willing to upgrade these computers
to Am5x86-133 chips, however, for $398, I could probably do better.
Has anyone tried this upgrade? Is the Am5x86 pin compatible with the
486SX-33? My 486SX-33 is 208pin, surface mount, and the AMD chip is
available also as a 208 pin surface mount chip.
Are there any other ways to upgrade these computers? Maybe I can swap
system boards? Any help would be appreciated.
My next problem is the computers need hard drives. However, what drives
will fit? The height isn't a factor, but the 360C appears to need a
hard drive cradle/adaptor to fit a standard 2.5inch drive. Can I get
one of these cradles? Does the 360C have a bios limit on size of the
Hard Drive?
I also received some PCMCIA cards. One is a IBM 14.4 Data/Fax modem
with an integrated DAA. It's missing the cable adaptor... can I get one
of these cables? On the back of the modem card, it has a flash upload
feature. Does anyone know where flash upgrades can be obtained for this
modem? Can I flash it to 28.8 or 33.6? (I doubt it, but it's worth
asking)
The final question I have is about the PCMCIA Token Ring card I got with
it. It's a IBM Token Ring 16/4. Unfortunately, I didn't get the cable
adapter with this either. Can I get a card for this?
Sorry to be so winded, but I really need to get some use out of at least
one 360C. The two others will probably end up used for parts. I'm
sure in the next few weeks, I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions, since
IBM's web site is pretty lame in respect to the 360C.
Thanx in advance.
