I have an aging TP750 which is running remarkably well (partially due
to advice I received from this group after spilling wine into the
keyboard). I will eventually replace it with a newer model (probably
a 770) but I can't bring myself to retire it yet. The memory (20M)
and disk (540M) are bursting at the seams, but I am hesitant to spend
money on upgrades.
I am considering installing a 2.5" drive in the 4Gb range, but I
wanted to confirm four points. 1) Will this work on an old 750? 2)
when I do finally get the 770, will I be able to transfer the disk to
the new machine? 3) If I get an IBM drive, will I still have
hibernation? 4) What would be the best drive to get (function more
important than cost).
Regarding my eventual computer upgrade, Is it safe to assume that any
thinkpad will eventually be able to run linux and warp, provided I
stay away from models with the NeoMagic video chip? Which models run
smoothest right now?
Regarding screen cleaning, I have been using windex or ethanol for
almost 4 years and the screen looks fine. Secrets are 1) keep your
hands off the screen. 2) lightly dust frequently 3) Don't smoke
(anything :). 4) Turn your head before you sneeze 5) If you follow
1-4, you should only have to really clean the screen every 2-3 months.
Do this gently with a minimum of fluid.
