Hello Lloyd, You are correct about the new drive. As for the MMX processor your original configuration will work just fine with the new drive. The drivers for the DVD ROM drive are very close if not identical to that of the CD drives. My question is, if you get the new DVD drive how will you "play" the DVD media?
