Hello!
Some time ago I asked about how one get's MWave of US-TP's working
with the german Telekom. Here's the answer I found form some mailings
and reserach work on the net, just if someone of you ever has the
same problem:
Wireing:
~~~~~~~~
RJ11:
-----
TP uses 6 Pin western-plug (RJ11) with speechsignal between pin 3 and
4. Pin 2 and 5 are connected to W and F respectively. W is used as
far as I know if one has an automatic switch between more than one
phone (in germany called AWADO) or more complex phone equipment. F is
for the Flash-funktion in such environments. Probably one actually
doen't need F and W, I didn't test that.
TAE:
----
TAE layout is as follows. If one views from front the layout is:
F-plug (phone) N-plug (Modem etc.)
F W x x
x Lb Lb2 Lb
x La La2 La
La and La carry the speechsignal, La2 and Lb2 are for connecting
additional devices behind. E. g. one could connect a phone,
answeringmachine and modem in series.
To get MWave working one should connect La and Lb to pins 3 and 4 of
the RJ45, F and W to pin 2 and 5 respectively if one uses a F-plug.
It really doesn't matter what plug one uses, cause the La and
Lb-wires are allways connected to the same pins in TAE and the
Thinkpad disables all additional devices connected behind it, cause
it simply didn't know about the strange things the german Telekom
does ;-) Connection for a N-plug should be simmilar, but I didn't
build it up cause I have no N-plug arround. (For my testing I get the
next phonewire availabe.)
ThinkPad:
~~~~~~~~~
In the docs is mentioned that one has to select the contry exactly.
For the purpose I thought about, connecting an US-TP to german
phonenet this is simply wrong. One should set USA/Canada instead of
germany. That's half of the work besides wiring. I found that one
could have a perfect wire, modem working on all commands (e.g. AT&F,
ATI etc.) but ATDT get's ERROR if one has selected GERMANY...
Software:
~~~~~~~~~
Most software works fine with Hayes-compatible settings.
Just to cover the most important.
For InJoy (should I mention that I run OS/2? Think it's time to do
so) I use as init AT&F and as Dial ATDT if I'm directly connected to
an anlogue phoneline. If I'm connected to ISDN via an AD-converter or
similar I use AT&FX1 for init and ATDT for dialing. X1 disables the
waiting for a dialtone, which the modem will never get in that
configurations. Rest of InJoy-configuration as usual.
Internet-Connection should work with normal Hayes, but I allways use
InJoy cause of much better performance and configrability. For those
not using OS/2 (by now, they should try it ;-) InJoy is for building
up Internet-connections. One of the best dialers I've ever seen.
For Zoc just use normal Hayes. ZOC is a more or less "normal"
communications program with many nice features. I'd judge it as Must
Have. It's also available for Windows (95 and NT).
For FaxWorks use 14400 Baud modem, Tone dialing, Class 2-Modem and
Use 16550 UART. Rest is standard setting. FaxWorks will not connect
using Class1 modem here. Tried that but got allways: No Carrier.
FaxWorks is similar to WinFax I think. I use the version packed with
Warp, but Pro-Version (now called PMFax) should be similar only with
some features enabeled.
