TP 360 -- Boot up Problem ??

Just bought a Thinkpad 360 that presumably only needed an internal DC-DC
converter bd replacement (included). Well, replacing that item did not
make the unit function. After stripping the unit down to its barebones out
of the case (system board and DC-DC board only remain) and attaching the AC
supply adaptor and the floppy drive suddenly there was life !! (Not sure
what was done!!) The floppy began to startup as might be expected during a
boot up. I added the other components including hard drive, display,
keyboard and case, stopping to re-check operation after each step. The
unit continued to function. Got the unit to operate properly for about an
hour and then shut down for the evening.

At the next powerup attempt the unit failed to boot at all (back to
original symptoms !! Here are a few more clues:

   (1) Each time the reset button is depressed on the back, a power on
attempt will cause the floppy to spin for about a second (once) -- further
on/off switch cycling will not have any effect

   (2) Normally (in this failed condition), no status lights are active ,
but if the reset button is held in while the power switch is pressed about
6 of the indicator lights will latch ON. -- nothing will function though !

   (3) No battery was in the unit during any of these tests.

   (4) AC adaptor output voltage is 20.2V (19-21 normal)

   (5) Both status and backup batteries at at proper nominal voltage levels.

Any ideas as to where to go from here ?? Is there something really simple
that I'm missing ?? -- I don't have access to any schematic diagrams, so
its real difficult to do much trouble shooting at this point. Don't want
to have to replace the system board, which I'm sure is cost prohibitive.
Any help greatly appreciated.
