There's a couple of companies that make the automotive adapters, of which
some also provide the connectors for airplane usage. I'd gotten the
APA-701 model from Lind Electronics <http://www.lindelectronics.com/> for
my 701C, and it works well for me.

Another possibility is a solar adapter, such as the Mercury II, made by
Keep It Simple Systems <http://www.wildwestweb.com/default.htm>. Although
it's pricy as compared to the other options, it'd probably be ideal for
people living in sunny locales. The PC version comes with three different
cables for various laptop models, one of which is ThinkPad-specific; it
handles the 355, 360, 700, 750, 755, and 760 models. The other ThinkPads,
including the 701C, require a special-order cable. In combination with a
SLA battery (KISS also sells one, which comes with an AC adapter, an
automotive adapter, booster cables, and a built-in flashlight), one ought
to be able to reduce the cost of electricity for one's ThinkPad by a fair
margin.

Note that I have no financial interest in these companies - I'm just a
satisfied customer of both.
