Flimsy?



The Thinkpad 600 looks and feels much more substantia than the 560...

The Thinkpad 770 (and 760ED and up) are at least as tough as the Micron...
certainly have less problems.

Manufacturing is improving for most makers... but those that try to reduce
weight seem to increase board failures and other problems... It is fun to look
at our repair records on various computers made/sold by the same company such
as the IBM's (560's vs 760's), the Dells (Latitude vs Inspiron), the
Microns, and the Compaqs (Contura, Elites, Armada's)...  In a big organization
like ours, we can see the extra weight is
often valuable when you look at lifetime durability... but then the MIS guys
usually don't have to carry one clear across the O'Hare or Hartsfield
airports...

If I were a student or other person who had to pay for repairs and maintenance
I would give a much lower value to light weight based on what I have seen in
our shop.
