The install program notices that I have MWave drivers already
installed,
even if I remove all the files and directories where the MWave drivers
were first installed. It then proceeds to install the drivers, but
stops
abruptly without any message after (according to its status indicator)
it
finishes with the first install disk. There are two disks, and the
second
has the modem install.

How can I get the modem to work again?
