This document contains information on optimizing the 500 Series.
The files mentioned can be obtained by downloading them from
the Toshiba Canada BBS at (905)470-7122 or the Toshiba Canada
Web site at www.toshiba.ca. If there are any further
questions, please call Toshiba Canada Technical Support at
1-800-663-0378. Please find below a section on TSETUP, DOS,
WINDOWS FOR WORKGROUPS, OS/2 WARP, WINDOWS NT and WINDOWS 95.

Notes:

37. The most recent Chips & Technologies Display Driver,
filename "CT65550P.EXE" can be downloaded from the Toshiba
BBS or Web site.

38. The most recent Zoomed Video Port Manager, filename
"CHPSPORT.EXE" can be downloaded from the Toshiba BBS or Web Site.

39. The latest Accupoint mouse driver may be downloaded from
the Toshiba BBS or Web site. (filenames = WIN95MW1.EXE, WIN95MW2.EXE).

40. The latest Toshiba internal modem driver may be downloaded
from the Toshiba BBS or Web site. (filename = MODEM.EXE)

CONTROL PANEL/(386) ENHANCED/VIRTUAL MEMORY

41. Modify the Virtual Memory settings within Windows. Select
both 32-Bit Disk Access and 32-Bit File Access. The Swapfile
should be permanent and you may use the recommended size.
Using 32-bit access will increase performance within Windows
For Workgroups 3.11. If necessary download the 32 bit disk access
driver from the Toshiba BBS or Web site (filename = T4932BIT.EXE)

42. Please download Maxtime and Hardware setup for Windows
from Toshiba BBS or Web site (filename: W95UT500.EXE).

43. Please download the IrDA s/w for the infrared port,
English filenames "TRANXIT1.EXE" and"'TRANXIT2.EXE".
French filenames "TRNXTFR1.EXE" and "TRNXTFR2.EXE"

44. Please download the Magic CD s/w for the 500 Series, the
filename is "WTCD11US.EXE".

45. Please download the TECRA 500 Series on-line documentation,
filenames:
English = 500USER1.EXE and 500USER2.EXE
French = 500USRF1.EXE, 500USRF2.EXE and 500USRF3.EXE

46. Please download Windows Crystal sound system drivers on two
diskettes, "CRYSTAL1.EXE" and "CRYSTAL2.EXE".

47. Please download AMD SCSI s/w ver 3.0
(filename=AMDSCSI.EXE) for SCSI support on the DSV PLUS within DOS
and WFW.

48. Please download System Soft Card Soft 16 PCMCIA
drivers:

49. To use the telephony features of the 500 Series and the internal
modem please download, "MULTIC1.EXE", "MULTIC2.EXE","MULTIC3.EXE"
and "MULTIC4.EXE".

OPTIMIZED OS/2 2.11 and WARP 3.0 and ON 500 Series
==================================================

OS/2 supports Advanced Power Management. The following files
will help configure your system for OS/2 Warp 3.0. The
following files are available from the Toshiba BBS.

50. The OS/2 WARP 3.0 SVGA drivers are available by the name of
OS265550.EXE.

51. The sound drivers filename is OS2CRYS.ZIP located on the Toshiba
BBS and Web site. Please refer to TSB451 for installation instructions
under OS/2 WARP 3.0 for sound driver and MIDI file support.

52. OS/2 2.11 only PCMCIA Socket Service Enablers available
in "OS2T45.ZIP". OS/2 Warp 3.0 includes Plug and Play PCMCIA
drivers. Choose T4800CT in selective install in OS/2 WARP
for PCMCIA support, since both systems have two PCMCIA slots.

53. Please download "OS2AMDSC.EXE" for SCSI support on the DSV+.

OPTIMIZED WINDOWS NT ON 500 Series
==================================
54. The SVGA drivers for Windows NT 3.51 are available on the
Toshiba BBS or Web site in a file called "WINNT320.ZIP". Use
the native Chips and Technologies video drivers under Windows NT 4.0.

55. Please download "CRYSTLNT.EXE " for the Sound System under
Windows NT 3.51 and 4.0. Please refer to TSB 457 for instructions.

56. The internal modem does not require drivers for NT. There is
no telephony support for this modem under NT 3.51 or 4.0 at this time.

57. Please download "WINNTUT.EXE" for the Toshiba Windows NT
Utilites. Includes MaxTime, Hardware Setup, and Fn-Esse.

OPTIMIZED WINDOWS 95 on 500 Series
==================================
58. In Windows for Wingroups 3.11, please disable 32 bit disk
access and 32 bit file access before one installs the Windows
95 upgrade.

59. The Windows 95 Sound Driver is available on our BBS and
Web site in a file called W95720SD.EXE

60. The Windows 95 C&T SVGA Driver is available on the BBS
and Web site in a file called "W9565550.EXE".

61. Windows 95 Utilities are available in the file
"W95UT500.EXE".

62. If experiencing any floppy drive problems then please
download "HSFLOP.PDR". Copy this file into the
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS directory.

63. Please download the Toshiba Win 95 Companion Diskette,
available in English and French, "W95COMP.EXE" and
"W95COMPF.EXE".

64. Please download the Magic CD s/w for Win 95 available on
two diskettes, "W95MAGC1.EXE" and "W95MAGC2.EXE".

65. Please download the latest Accupoint mouse drivers
(filenames WIN95WM1.EXE, WIN95MW2.EXE).

66. Please download SCSIPORT.PDR for support for the AMD
SCSI port if using the DSV with WIN 95.

67. Please download Tranxit s/w for the infrared port
filenames English = TRANXIT1.EXE, TRANXIT2.EXE
French = TR700FR1.EXE, TR700FR2.EXE

68. Please download the modem driver for the 500 the filenameis
"MODEM.EXE".

69. Please download the TECRA 500 Series on-line documentation,
filenames:
English = 500USER1.EXE and 500USER2.EXE
French = 500USRF1.EXE and 500USRF2.EXE

70. To use the telephony features of the 500 Series or the internal
modem please download, "MULTIC1.EXE", "MULTIC2.EXE","MULTIC3.EXE"
and "MULTIC4.EXE".

DETAILED EXPLANATION
====================

1. The most recent BIOS version is 5.50. This can be
upgraded by downloading the file "B500CDT.EXE" for the 500CDT.

2. When the CPU Cache is enabled there is the option of
Write Policy, either Write-back or Write-through. For
better performance, select Write-back.

3. At Full Power, the Processing Speed is set to High. For
performance, if using any other power settings, such as user
settings, be sure to select Processing Speed = High and CPU
Sleep Mode = Disabled.

4. Enabling Text Mode Stretch will stretch the sc
