HARD DISK --------- This device driver conforms to the MS-DOS Block Device Driver specifications and has been tested with MS-DOS 5.0 and MS-DOS 6.0. This driver allows for the reading and writing of Hard Disk device. The driver also supports multiple DOS partitions or logical drive. If the disk drive has been formatted with a DOS compatible format, then proceed to MODIFYING THE CONFIG.SYS FILE. However, if the previous format is NOT DOS COMPATIBLE, proceed the next section. The driver has been tested using the following devices: o Maxtor o MaxOptix o Maxtor o Seagate o Quantum o Conner HARD DISK FORMAT PROCEDURE -------------------------- If you are using a new drive, or if the previous format is NOT DOS COMPATIBLE, use the following procedure to format the drive BEFORE attempting installation. If the AMD BIOS is installed, use the DOS FDISK and FORMAT utilities. If the AMD BIOS is not installed, use the AMD (AMSIPD.EXE) utilities. REMOVABLE MEIDA --------------- This device driver conforms to the MS-DOS Block Device Driver specifications and has been tested with MS-DOS 5.0 and MS-DOS 6.0. This driver allows for the reading and writing of Magneto Optical removable media cartridges. The driver allows for the dynamic insertion and removal of optical cartridges. It only supports one partitions or logical dirve. This driver has been tested using the following devices: o MaxOptix Tahiti 2m/1 o Ricoh RO-5031E o Sony SMO-C301-00 o Sony SMO-C501-00E o Hewlett-Packard, Model C1716T o Bernoulli Dual B290X-UNI REMOVABLE MEDIA FORMAT PROCEDURE -------------------------------- To use unformatted media, place the media in the device and use the WINDOW format disk command: 1. Select FILE MANAGER in WINDOW. 2. From the Disk menu, choose Format Disk. 3. Choose the OK button. Note: DOS 5 recognizes the device as a floppy type device during FORMAT.COM command. DOS 6 properly identifies the device as removable during FORMAT.COM To use pre-formatted media, place the media in the device and use as a standard DOS drive letter. MODIFYING THE CONFIG.SYS FILE ----------------------------- In order for the removable media driver to become loaded, it must be placed in your CONFIG.SYS file after the ASPI device driver. If your system already has a CONFIG.SYS file, you can open it with any text editor and add the following line: DEVICE=AMSIRM.SYS The above example assumes that the AMSIRM.SYS file is in the root directory of your boot drive.
