I would tend to agree with you on the port covers.  However, it
seems that the port covers all have different degrees of difficulty
and tightness.  My closed one is nearly impossible to take off and
I have to take a blunt but edged object to it (or try your approach).
However, my open cover is really quite a snap...I just hope it's
not such a snap it falls out! :)

As far as requiring a hotplug....that's not really true as far as
suspend mode goes.  It's hibernation mode that usually does the 
trick for me.  I just pull it out and put it back in.

Agreed.  You might make life a little easier by filing off a bit of the
part that holds the port cover in.  Or, as I did, just squish it until
it's a bit bent...

Not enough to really make anything out of.  I think I'll, when given
time, will just put those into the FAQ so we have at least some
sort of inkling of "real-world" time...
