New Thinkpads on Monday
Today's Wall Street Journal says that IBM will announce all their new
computer model types on Monday. Apparently the PS/2 and Valuepoint will
be discontinued and the computers will be called just "The IBM PC"
with a 300 series and a 700 series (just like the notebooks). The 300
series will be the value brand with prices starting at about $1200. The
700 series will the high-end models. All 700 series will be Pentiums.
The new Thinkpads will have some innovative features such as, built in
CD-ROM drives, digital telephone-answering system, and an infrared device
to beam files from one machine to another.
They also said that they will boost production of color screen Thinkpads
by four times the level of the first half of 1994, but that probably
still won't be enough.
