TP 750, OS/2 video, hard drives
Hello. My name is Wesley Dunaway. I'm a student at Furman University and a
new subscriber to the ThinkPad 750 mailing list. I have a TP 750 monochrome
with a 170 MB hard drive, a 16MB RAM expansion card, and an Intel 14.4/14.4
Faxmodem. I also have a Port Replicator I. I use OS/2 2.11 and will soon be
upgrading to Warp. I have a few questions that I would appreciate input on.
I understand that these matters probably have been covered before, but
again, I am new.
Question 1:
There seems to be much discussion regarding replacing the ThinkPad's internal
hard drive with other, non-IBM models by opening the exterior case and
installing the new drive. Has anyone done this successfully? I would
appreciate knowing the manufacturer and model of the replacement drive you
used. Has anyone had any bad experiences with IBM support after this
seemingly warranty-voiding operation?
Question 2:
Has anyone found OS/2 video drivers that are faster than the ones shipped by
IBM? Maybe someone out there has written drivers. :) The list seems to
encompass some technically minded people. I'm using version 1.32 of the IBM
drivers with an external monitor at 800x600x256 resolution, and they seem
rather slow.
Question 3:
Has anyone figured out a way to use the ThinkPad's internal audio subsystem
with Win-OS/2?
Question 4:
Has anyone installed Warp on a TP 750 yet? Are there any installation
pitfalls I should know about?
Again, I would greatly appreciate answers to these questions, and I'm sorry
if they have been answered before.
