<Grin!> I don't doubt it! But at least there is something to
be said for the aesthetics of color screens--for the most part, computer
sound is simply noise to me (though I do have a .WAV file that plays,
when I exit, Al Bundy saying, "Well this certainly sucks!").
And of course, there are those of us who do our share of desktop
publishing where the color ranges from handy to imperative.
Aside from games, I see little reason for sound on a computer--
unless you're composing music or for educational stuff (teaching kids
to say words, etc.). The gentleman I first made the sound argument
to mentioned another use that I hadn't thought of, yet use all the time--
using a sound file to let you know when the computer has completed a
process. I use it to let me know the computer has completed downloading
a set of files, he uses it to let him know when the computer is done with
a long compile, so he can go on to other things without constantly
checking to see if it is done. A legitimate reason, I think, but something
that *could* be done with a simple system beep too.
