Re: 755CX first impressions (1.2 gig, 28.8modem?)
} 1. The 600 x 800 mode works only in 256 colors. Unlike a CRT where you
} can modify the resolution, the resolution of a TFT is of course fixed.
} This means that if you want to work in 64K color mode, you work with a
} small 480 x 640 image centered in the screen (note that full screen DOS
} sessions are also shrunk this way).
This is very interesting, because the standard release blurb specifically says
" ... 10.4-inch diagonal SVGA Black Matrix TFT displays that give
you 65,536 colours at 800x600 resolution."
[All right, it's "colors" in American Inglish.]
So what you're saying is that you get an 800x600 screen, at 16bpp, but that
you only have access to a smaller viewport. So IBM is not lying, but they're
certainly not telling the whole story. For me, the higher colour density
matters.
This is pretty silly, because the smaller viewport is, what, 40% smaller than
the full-screen 640x480 of the CE/CD series?
} For my purposes, these limitations do not matter, but they are worth being
} aware of in deciding which way to go. Probably if you are interested in
} multi-media, the 755CD is a better bet (it can be upgraded to the PENTIUM
} mother board).
Indeed, the Pentium upgrade is looking more attractive for my CE than it
did before. I still won't bite until it's a P90 or above.
