Jim: I have a TP 750 (20MB RAM) and have noticed something like the
"stalling" you mention. I'm using build 490 also. In my case, though,
it's only occasional (usually when lots of disk access is going on in
the background) and never lasts more than a second or two. I've never
used a 755CX, but my 750 has an EasySetup screen that can be accessed by
holding the F1 key at a cold boot. It has a series of self-tests that
can be run there. You might want to try these. It's possible that
there really is something wrong with the system board; Win95 shouldn't
have any problems interfacing with something as basic as the drive
controller. Also, you might want to check Control Panel -- System --
Performance and see if the 32-bit disk- and file-system drivers are
engaged. These make a huge performance difference.

I know that most of you on this list have moved beyond the TP 750 and
are using newer machines, but hey, some of us are college students and
don't have the money for things like 2.5" 1.2GB hard drives and wireless
networks in our houses. :-) (wish I did). But I'm happy to report
that somewhere between the first preview build (347) and the new preview
build (490) Microsoft fixed the power management drivers to work with
the 750 family. Suspend/Resume work properly now, as does Hibernation.
Also, there's no problem with using a power-on password with Win95. The
power-on password caused problems with OS/2 Warp.

For those who are interested, the new build seems marginally faster. I
did a little experimentation with OLE 2; it seems a *lot* faster. I've
not had the opportunity to really push the OS, but nothing has crashed
after a day of pretty heavy use.

Unfortunately enough, there still aren't native Win95 drivers for the
750/755 (not MWave) sound chip. The Win 3.1 drivers still work, though.

Sincerely,
Wesley Dunaway
