i do not have a 755CD, and do not if this is the problem or not, 

BUT

i recall reading yesterday in the current PC Magazine that Microsoft
Window 95 has a BUG in the ATAPI driver which made it all the way to the final
release version!  the article said that on new win95 CD-ROMS/floppies being
stamped now have the bug fixed, but that folks who purchased win95 in the
first couple weeks may have the buggy ATAPI.

the article said to contact microsoft for a free ATAPI patch.

(this was mentioned in the article on a review of win95 backup tape
drives/software)
