701 vs 755 graphics
I found this on Ziff Davis' web site while looking for a comparison
between DX2/50 and DX4/75 notebooks. To reiterate, the 701 uses a
C&T 65545, while the 755s use the WD90C24A. Keep in mind the 701 has
a 25MHz bus while a 755 w/ DX4/100 uses a 33MHz bus. What effect that
has on video I don't know. Perhaps there's a hardware guru here who
can answer this?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
On our Graphics WinMark 95 tests, which measure graphics subsystem
performance, we found that machines with C&T 65545 accelerators turned in
the best results. The C&T 65545 is a 32-bit chip, so it can't match the
speed of 64-bit chips found in fast desktops, but when paired with a fast
CPU it still makes for a speedy graphics solution. Systems based on
WD90C24A RocketChips took the second tier, coming in about 30 percent
slower, on the average, than those using the C&T chips.
